Obituary of Edward John Schlechtweg jr

Edward J. Schlechtweg Jr., 83, of Freehold, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at home with his family. Born in Freehold, he has resided there his entire life. He was a Korean War Marine Corps. veteran. Ed began his career as a truck driver for Clayton Transportation in Freehold, and later for the Teamster's Local 469 in Perth Amboy until retiring in 1989. He then became the groundskeeper for Holland Orchards, now known as Bella Vista Country Club, until 2005. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Cecelia Ann, in 2010, and two children, Lisa Ann in 1972 and Michael in 1988. He is survived by his five children, Wanda Schlechtweg, Gail Burns, Elaine Greiner, Edward (Janice) Schlechtweg III, and Catherine (Nick) DeMarco; two siblings, Ralph Schlechtweg and Rose Kelly; seven grandchildren, James, Michael, Stacey, Jennifer, Nicole, Shelly and Edward; and 10 great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, Nov. 20th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, and on Thursday from 10 to 11 AM, at Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold. Words of Remembrance will be said at 11 AM followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
