Obituary of Michael King Vanderbilt

Michael King Vanderbilt was born on April 15, 1949 on Staten Island, NY. He grew up by the beach in Eltingville and graduated from Staten Island Academy. After attending Hobart College, he worked for Vanbro Corporation, a family construction business. He then went into business with Jiffy Lube Franchises. He is survived by his daughter, Lillian Rachel Vanderbilt of Manalapan; his step-daughter, Jessica Farley of Alexandria, VA; brother, Cornelius (Neil) of Westfield; two sisters, Susan Moran of Williamsburg, VA and Penny Dinger of Westfield; eight nieces and nephews; 15 great nieces and great nephews; and a multitude of wonderful friends. He was a longtime friend of Bill W's. Michael was a voracious reader and a Civil War buff, as well as an avid gardener. His inquisitive mind and quick wit endeared him to his acquaintances, friends and family. His happiest moments were with his daughter, Lillian, his pride and joy. Family and friends are invited to visit today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, at the Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 10 AM, followed by entombment at Marlboro Memorial Mausoleum, Marlboro.
