Obituary of Dennis James Murtha

Dennis J. Murtha, 65, of Marlboro, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at home with his family. Born in Newark, he has resided in Marlboro for the past 29 years. He was a communicant, a Eucharistic Minister and a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Marlboro. He was a 1964 graduate of St. Benedict's Preparatory School, Newark, and Villanova University in 1969. He was a member of the Marine Corps Reserves, Cpl. Phillip A. Reynolds Detachment USMC, Freehold. Dennis was a sales representative with National Starch and Chemical Co. for 24 years before becoming a sales representative for Titan Adhesives for nine years. Dennis loved to golf and volunteered much of his time interviewing potential students at St. Benedict's Prep.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Catherine. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Gail; his two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jonathan of Marlboro and Dennis and Kerri of Marlboro; and two grandchildren, Owen and Mollie.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, June 21st, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, June 22nd, at 10:00 AM, at St. Gabriel's Main Church, Route 79, Marlboro. Entombment will follow at the parish mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Benedict's Prep School, 520 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Newark, NJ 07102, Attention: Advancement Office.
