Obituary of Edward Louis Heckel

Edward L. Heckel, 91, of Manalapan, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Born in Newark, he lived in South Orange for 37 years before moving to Manalapan in 2004. He was a World War II Navy veteran and worked for the NJ Transit Authority for 37-1/2 years before retiring in 1984. Ed loved to travel with his family and was an avid sports fan, especially of the NY Yankees. He was predeceased by his daughter, Barbara Heckel, and three siblings, Charles, George and Claudia Heckel. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Helen; five children and their spouses, Gary Heckel and Linda Dean of Holmdel, Diana and Thomas Bollaro of Jackson, Doreena and Joseph Kohler of Holmdel, Danita and Richard Fox of Branchburg, and Eddie and Nicole Heckel of Manalapan; 13 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He will also be greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to visit Sunday, Jan. 20th, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM, at the Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 21st, at 11:00 AM, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery, Linden, NJ.
