Obituary of Joseph B Murphy

Joseph Bernard Murphy, Sr., 86, of Manalapan, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018 at home. He was born and raised in Newark before moving to Manalapan 55 years ago, where he raised his three sons. Joe fought as a boxer under the alias "Jerry Light", and won the Golden gloves in Newark PAL. He was a proud member and recording secretary of the Local 696 Sprinkler Pipefitters Union, and a lifelong member of the Freehold Racetrack. Upon his retirement, Joe and his wife went on many fantastic vacations with Sis, Ben, Jackie, and Marty. Joseph Sr. was predeceased by his son Joseph Jr. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joan; his two sons and their spouses, Richard and Karol Murphy, and Robert and Donna Murphy; his three grandchildren T.J., Tiffany and Tyler Murphy; and his sister Marie Curley. Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial gathering on Saturday, February 24, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. During the gathering, a memorial service will be held at 1:00 at the Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan.
