Johann (John) Adalbert Cerny, age 84, passed away on August 7, 2017 at the Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge. He was born March 29th, 1933 in Kienberg, Czechoslovakia to Johann and Katharina Stockinger . After World War II ended, his family moved to Muhlhausen, West Germany. He immigrated to the United States on May 8, 1956. He lived in a few towns, but met his wife (Betty) while living in Colts Neck. He worked as a machinist for Stewart's Tool and Die in Colts Neck for over 40 years. On June 29, 1963 he married Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Ellis. He was a member of the Colts Neck Reformed Church. John loved spending time with his family. John was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Betty, in 2015; and his sister Gretl Oestringer in June of 2017. He is survived by his brother Rudolf Cerny and sister in law Marianna Clowes; his five children, John Cerny, Betty Sue Edwards (Rich), Terri Lynn O'Neil, Kevin David Cerny (Diana), and Cristina Applegate (John). He is also survived by his ten grandchildren, Beverly Ann Cerny, Elizabeth Ann Cerny, John David Cerny, Evan Charles Cerny, Dillon Charles O'Neil, R.J. Edwards, Jessica Anna Cerny, Elizabeth Lyn Applegate, Kristofer Nicholas Cerny, and Kelly Cristina Applegate. Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 10th at 10 a.m. at Colts Neck Reformed Church, 139 County Route 537 West, Colts Neck. Burial will follow at Atlantic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Colts Neck Reformed Church memorial fund. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home 47 E. Main Street, Freehold.
