Obituary of Charles John Salvaggio

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charlie Salvaggio, age 76, passed peacefully on February 9, 2017, surrounded by the loving warmth of his family. Charlie was born in Brooklyn, NY and met his doting wife Peggy in 1965 while they both worked for US Customs. The two have remained inseparable since, having raised three wonderful children together, while truly defining the definition of marriage and unconditional love. Charlie loved his sister Jean, his nephew Paul and his niece Agnes, and the ten brothers and sisters from the Sullivan clan that became his instant family when he married Peggy. Add forty plus nieces and nephews, and it was no surprise that his happiest moments involved friends and family. Whether that was the annual family trip to Aruba (where he is an honorary citizen), the fun times spent at his vacation home in Boca Raton, Florida, the years of Sunday after-church meals at the house in Brooklyn that spilled into long dinners and political conversation, hosting Christmas at the house in NJ or the Friday night card games anchored by his brother in law Paul, his favorite times involved food, wine and being surrounded by the love of family and friends. He was always there to offer help and advice to those he loved. The great part about Charlie was that he always made you feel special and took a genuine interest in whatever was happening in your life. Whether that was school, career direction, love interests or just life, he always took the time to ask how you were doing, being sure to respond with a twinkle in his eye and a bit of humor affirming that you knew he cared about you and loved you. He will certainly be missed by all. Surviving Charlie is his wife of 50 years, Peggy, his children, Gregory, Christopher and his wife Nicole, and Marissa. Charlie was also the loving Papa to three grandchildren, Oscar, Ginger and Jackson. Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, February 12th from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan, NJ. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 13th at St. Gabriel’s Historic Catholic Church, Marlboro, NJ. To leave a condolence or find directions, visit www.freemanfuneralhomes.com.
