Obituary of Joseph John Melnik

Joseph J. Melnik, 86, of Marlboro, passed away on Tuesday November 15th, 2016 at Jersey Shore Medical Center. He was born in Staten Island and lived there for 50 years before moving to New Jersey. Joseph served in the Marines during the Korean War where he received numerous citations for his service including a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He later went on to become a NYPD Police Officer. He was a member of the Freehold Marine Corps League Reynolds Detachment 203, and the Freehold American Legion Post 54. Joseph was predeceased by his son, Joseph. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth "Betty Andersen"; their daughter LeeAnn Stackewicz of Estero, Florida; his brother, Raymond and wife Victoria of Staten Island, NY; his three grandchildren, Craig and Colin Stackewicz, and Courtney Magill; and his four great grandchildren, Rowan, Logan, Connor and Carley Magill. Friends and family are invited to visit Freeman Funeral Home, 47 E Main St, Freehold, on Friday, November 18, from 3 to 7 PM. A Funeral Liturgy will be held 10 AM Saturday at St. Gabriel's Historic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Gabriel's Mausoleum.
