Obituary of Barbara Matthews

Barbara Matthews, 86, of Freehold, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Imperial Health Care, Neptune. Born in Brooklyn, she was raised in Dumont before moving to Freehold in 1966. Upon losing her husband in 1972 she was left to care for her five children and embarked in a career as Unit Secretary for the Outpatient Surgery Center at Centra State Medical Center for 35 years before retiring in 2008. She was always the caregiver putting those she loved before herself whether it was caring for her husband, her eldest daughter stricken with Cancer, her children and many beloved dogs. She cherished her grandchildren and looked forward to her frequent trips to the beach and especially Cape May. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur and daughter Deborah; and survived by her daughters Pamela Rabideau and husband Ray of Conway, NH, and Diane of Old Bridge, sons Scott and wife Cheryl of Tinton Falls and Brian and wife Kari of Neptune, and beloved grandchildren Kalee, Taylor, Kelsey and Kristina. Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, April 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold. The funeral service is Saturday, April 23 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.
