Obituary of Dorothy M. Whitson

Dorothy M. Whitson, 98, of Applewood Estates, died on Friday, April 1, 2016, at home. Born in Lincroft, she formerly resided in Marlboro prior to moving to Freehold Township years ago. Dorothy was a 1936 graduate of Freehold Regional High School. She was an active life member of Old Brick Reformed Church of Marlboro where she was a past Consistory member. Dorothy was also a life member of the Marlboro Fire Department and the Ladies Auxiliary. After retirement from the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years she found great joy in travelling. Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, Lester Cook in 1968; her second husband Thurston Whitson in 1996; two brothers, Herbert and Leroy and her sister, Bertha Peoples. She is survived by her two daughters and a son-in-law, Luray and Gary Thiaville of Arvada CO. and Leslie Eckert of Myrtle Beach, SC; four step children and their spouses, Betty Lou and Norman Applegate of GA., Joan and Sam Pierce of PA., Gale Pudder of CA., Timothy and Ann Whitson of MA. and one granddaughter and her husband, Colleen and Craig Hoverman of Tinton Falls. Graveside services will be Tuesday, April 5th at 10:30 am at Old Brick Church Cemetery, Marlboro. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Old Brick Reformed Church, 490 County Road 520, Marlboro, NJ 07746.
