Dear Ellen and Hinde. So sorry to hear about the passing of your Mom. I loved her dearly and it was my pleasure to be able to help her the last few years she lived in New Jersey. I was also so fortunate to be able to visit her in California. She was a wonderful, loving generous woman. May all your wonderful memos with her give you peace at this difficult time.

Faye, you've been a life-long best friend of my mother Essie Liebowitz, since high school, and you have been a second mother to me since her passing. Blesed with a surprisingly long life (92!) and pretty good health, you've become a vital pillar for me these past decades. You've been my living link to your entire World War 2 generation, with its better values, and heroic past. Though you're now gone to join your husband Al--and my parents too, Sammie and Essie--I'll mourn you often by speaking often with all four of you old friends--just as I've talked and traded the beautiful old stories with you these past years. God bless you all, and say hello for me to Al, Sammie, and Essie.

The Socol and Kaplan families shared numerous holidays together. We celebrated Thanksgiving in Lakewood and Passover in Neptune. Faye's famous mushroom barley soup was a favorite opener for Thanksgiving. Faye was a gracious hostess, welcoming all with her smile and infectious laugh. As cousins we owe our close relationships to our parents for creating happy family celebrations. Faye loved having her friends and famiy enjoy each other's company and for that we are greatful.
With love to cousins and their families .

Although I only knew Faye a short while I feel my life was enriched by her friendship. She shared her stories and life experiences and broadened my view of the world. I will miss her. Rest in peace Faye. It was my pleasure to have known you.

Faye Roht Socol, my mother, was an irrepressible force. Within hours of her death she was still talking to us on the phone and Telling family stories with Hinde and John who were by her side. She was definitely an inspiration. At age 92 she was still an avid reader, playing numerous table games, doing crossword puzzles all while directing as many people's lives as would let her. Mom always had an opinion and never understood why everyone didn't always agree with her. Her energy and stamina were amazing. She was always wanting to go somewhere and do something. Eager to socialize and make more friends wherever she went. When we had left home, Mom started expanding her clown collection. I think it numbered over 200 when she gave some pieces away and donated the majority of them.
For the past ten years mom has lived in California but her heart was still in Lakewood.
She missed everything about the east coast. -especially her friends. Not that she didn't touch lives in California. She knew many of the residents when she lived in her own apartment and was involved in social activities there. Morgan, Lily and I would go visit her and take advantage of the great pool and hot tub on the grounds. Some of our best times together.
Mom touched so many lives. That happens when you reach 92.

There are too many stories about my Grandma Faye to narrow it down to just one. I have great memories of trips to New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, Michigan, Florida, and New Mexico. These trips and holidays remain some of my life's highlights. However I will fondly reflect her last years here on the West Coast. Over the past decade, Faye has been a proud Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother to my family. On many trips to visit her at Woodland in San Marcos, CA, she would introduce and announce her family to friends and neighbors. Even strangers! This was my Grandma Faye. To go out of her way to chat with others and ask about their life and family. Always waiting to show off her family because she was so proud. I will especially miss her legendary stories about life in New York City and New Jersey. Faye had quite an interesting life, which she was apt to relive when around us.
We already miss you and cherish the time we were able to share with you.
Love,
Morgan along with Lily and Ellen

We all liked Faye. She was interested in all our lives and filled us up with stories of her own. I have known her daughter Ellen since the early 70's where we worked together. Morgan and my daughter, Jen, grew up during same time and we shared much together. And there was always Grandma Faye. At first it was visits to San Diego and then sometime after Hinde and John moved here, Grandma Faye followed. Over the years the wonderful Thanksgiving meals stick in my mind; Ellen with the turkey(and other side dishes), Hinde with the salad, butternut squash, stuffing and Faye with the noodle kugel and soup. Wonderful times and we were all considered as family and will always be that way. So take heart I know you are at peace Faye, and by Al's side after these years. Will miss you, do already. Love to all the family. Joanne
