Dear Debbie and family, I have recently heard of Steve's passing and my deepest sympathies are with you and your family. As I worked with Steve, and you at Bartell's I have some wonderful memories. Steve was a wonderful boss and I respected him always. He taught me a lot about how to act in a corporate world. May he rest in peace. Time will heal your broken heart. Be strong.

When I first moved to the Village Grande, Steve and Debbie were among the first people I met. For those of you that may not know, we are pool people. Spending time by the pool in the summer was one of our favorite pastimes. Steve always made you feel like you belonged. Always with a smile; even when there was a conflict, Steve was the calming influence. When he first ran for the board he would have Sunday Fireside Chats with Steve Nash. It was his way of trying to bring neighbors together. We would also try to get together on Friday nights. One of my fondest memories is one Friday night in particular, I brought a jar of cherries that had been marinating in grain alcohol for almost one year to the clubhouse. To my surprise Steve and Debbie had never had them. For me, I grew up with them as they were one of my dad's specialties. We were playing cards with Frank and Donna Cavallo and Lauren, Debbie's niece who also never had them. Needless to say we never did finish the card game but we did finish the jar of cherries. When they were gone we only had the alcohol that they had been soaking in. Steve called it "Jesus juice" and insisted we all had to drink it. Of course we were willing participants! Drinking the juice was a first for me. Eventually the cherries found their way to other functions at Village Grande with Steve egging on someone that had never tried them to have one and laughing at their reaction to them. It's funny how one evening and one small tasting can make a memory that I will always remember. Now, when the cherries are served I will think of my dad and Steve with a smile.
Heaven's gain is our loss. Rest in peace Steve.
Love and miss you,
Gina

Dear Debbie, Such sadness we felt when we heard of Steve’s passing. We were visiting my sister Gina when we heard the awful news and it is taking us a few days to comprehend. Although we are not residents at the VG, we have attended many happy events at the community clubhouse over the years. We were always warmly welcomed by everyone, especially by Steve, the tall, handsome, bald man who towered over the crowd like some sort of “Superhero”. We will always remember Steve as a consummate gentleman, with a fantastic sense of humor. Debbie once again, we want to extend our heartfelt sympathies to you and your family. May you find comfort and support with the love of family and friends in the days ahead as you share light-hearted memories of Steve. With love, Jim, Annette, Danielle & Julianne (The Austin’s a.k.a. “Fobless” Committee)

Debbie, I want to offer you my condolences. I worked at Bartell Drugs in the AP department when Steve was there for many years. I knew him as a boss, but one that could make immediate decisions about important matters. He was respected by all in the Accounting department. I am so sorry about your loss and I hope you will have the strength and support to help you in this very difficult time. Take care, Anny

Dear Debbie & Family, We're so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. Although we have known Debbie and Steve for a short time, we have grown very fond of you both. As we continued to meet more people like Steve and Debbie we were glad that we chose to make the Village Grande our new community and home. You two are very giving, caring, and knowledgeable and it showed in the way you conducted yourselves at Board Meetings and community activities. If we can help you at this time of sadness, we're here. With sympathy and respect to all the family; Connie & Pete Robertini

I met Steve and Debby shortly after they moved into the Village Grande. I knew right away that we would wind up being not only neighbors, but friends. In 2011, when they were looking for people to run for the board, Steve came to me with a proposition. He said, Nick, if you run for the Board of Trustees, I will run with you. I reluctantly agreed. I was on the board for 2 years with Steve and we were able to achieve quite a bit, especially in the second year. He was a pleasure to work with and was always ready to add a helping hand. He will be missed but never forgotten. RIP Steve Your friend Nick
