Obituary of Salvatore Spinelli

Salvatore Spinelli, 83, of Manalapan, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. Born in Red Hook, lived in Carroll Gardens and Marine Park, Brooklyn until 1986 moved to Marlboro until his death. Salvatore was owner and proprietor of Ace High Clothing Store until 1994. He spent his teenage years as an athlete training in boxing. He won the Gimbels NYC Dept. of Parks Boxing Championship in 1947 and the NY Golden Gloves Championship in 1948 as a featherweight. He was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, Freehold, and former choir member. He was predeceased by siblings, Leo, John, Henry and Jean. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Pauline Gambino; his children and their spouses, Carmela Spinelli, Salvatore and Joanna Spinelli, and Leonard Spinelli; siblings, Anna Samochwal, and Tony and Nick, and his wife, Connie Spinelli; six grandchildren, Pauline, Salvatore III, Leonard, Nicholas, Joseph, Salvatore Anthony; and niece, Stephanie Gambino. Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, Sept. 18, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Freehold. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to St. Robert Bellarmine/St. Benedict's Assistance Ministry. Interment will be private.
