Obituary of Elizabeth Jane Cerny

Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Cerny, age 74, passed away on August 16th at the Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge. She was born on February 3, 1941 in Red Bank, NJ to Charles and Marianna (Ganley) Ellis. She grew up in Colts Neck and moved to Wall after she was married. Betty was a 1959 graduate of Freehold Boro High School and a 1962 graduate of Ann May School of Nursing in Neptune. She worked as an RN at Point Pleasant Hospital and Jersey Shore Medical Center. On June 29, 1963 she married Johann (John) Adalbert Cerny. She was a lifelong member of the Colts Neck Reformed Church. She enjoyed playing piano and served as a church organist for several local churches, including Colts Neck Reformed Church. Betty loved spending time with her family and attending church. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, John; a sister, Marianna Clowes; 5 children, John Charles Cerny, Betty Sue Edwards (Rich), Terri Lynn O'Neil, Kevin David Cerny (Diana) and Cristina Applegate (John); 10 grandchildren, Beverly Ann Cerny, Elizabeth Ann Cerny, John David Cerny, Evan Charles Cerny, Dillon Charles O'Neil, R.J. Edwards, Jessica Anna Cerny, Elizabeth Lyn Applegate, Kristofer Nicholas Cerny and Kelly Cristina Applegate. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 19th at 11 am at Colts Neck Reformed Church, 72 County Route 537 West, Colts Neck. Burial will follow at Atlantic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Colts Neck Reformed Church memorial fund. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold.
