Obituary of Rosario Mazzullo

Rosario Mazzullo, 90, of Manalapan, NJ, a retired NYC Fire Lieutenant, a U.S. Army veteran combat soldier of World War II, husband and devoted father of three, passed away on June 29, 2015, with his loving family at his side. Rosario was born in Yonkers, NY on October 6, 1924. He grew up in Queens, NY and attended Franklin K. Lane High School. He had four siblings and his parents were Italian immigrants from Sicily, Italy. As a young man he went to work in the garment district in New York City where he met his bride to be, Antoinette Capagrossa. They were married for forty-five years till her death in 1998. After working at a few different jobs Rosario (known as Sy) was appointed a NYC Fireman. During his firefighting career he was promoted to Lieutenant. He raised his family in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Manalapan in 1988. He was a handyman and house painter to supplement his income. Also he was a licensed pest control operator and owned his own business. In his later years Rosario did charity work. He delivered meals on wheels and was a Eucharistic Minister. He enjoyed fishing and crabbing, traveling and the slots at Atlantic City. But his biggest enjoyment was working on his house and especially spending time with his family. He is survived by his three children and their families. Rita and Joe Tichio, Maria and Tony Crisci, and Anthony and his fiancé, Linda. Rosario had eight grandchildren, Joseph, Billy, Antoinette, John, Stephanie, Michelle, Anthony Jr. and Brianna and seven great grandchildren, Jacob, Danny, Samantha, Rita, Ava, Emerson, Nicholas, and one more is on her way. Rosario was a great guy, loved by all who knew him. He will surely be missed. Friends and family are invited to visit on Wednesday, July 1st, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 2nd, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church, Manalapan. Interment will follow at the Brig.Gen. William C.
