I met John in high school. We became very close friends. Lost touch over the years, but luckily reconnected over the past year (thank you, Joanne and Robert). So happy to have caught up with one of my best friends. Had a great time at the SI Yankee game last summer (also dragged him out for a couple of drinks afterward). Steph and I had dinner at John and Lucilles the end of last year. We had a great time catching up and reminiscing. It was so much fun. Talking with Nick and watching videos of Dan. John was so proud of his boys, as he should be. He and Lucille have two great sons. Will always remember New Years Eve dinners at Angelinas in Port Richmond. John went too soon and I am so glad we were able to connect again. Will always remember him. He was one of the serious, more mature of our group, and one of the most caring of my friends. He will be missed and he will always be one of my best friends. Mike

I first met John when he transfered into St. Peter's Elementary School back in 1963. We became good friends very quickly. We had a lot in common,,, both of us were Catholics, came from large families, were just starting to discover girls, didn't have much money, lived in New Brighton, and had the same basic values. We did have differences though. John was always more mature, and was definitely the more serious. He was also much more introspective than I was, even at that age. Looking back, I don't think John and I would have changed anything about our life then, although I know our parents would have. Twelve or thirteen year old boys, are just starting to see the possibilities and excitement of life, and we were no different. John & I loved our Friday & Saturday nights hanging out on the corner of Westervelt & Taft Avenue with Johnny McRoberts, Bobby Barnes, Bobby Puglia, Joey SantaCroce, Larry Delmar and others. We were a close knit group. As we got older, and moved onto Hish School, John and I sort of went our own way. We still saw some of the old gang, but not as often. Life is like that. But John and I were a constant. We were best friends. We both loved going to the St. Peter's Boys High School dances and walking up to the Kings Arms on Forest Avenue afterwards. A lot of people don't know this, but I probably never would have really met my wife, if it wasn't for John. She was friends with a girl he dated way before he met & fell in love with Lucille. Just another way that John impacted my life. God, I have so many memories... I loved how comfortable I felt in his home, thought his mom & dad were great (except they sometimes were not happy with either of us). I remember getting scolded by his mom when I sold my '64 VW convertible to his brother Richard. To be fair, I did know she didn't want him to have a car yet. From my prospective, John's dad handled things a little differently then his mom when he got mad... he had this way of talking to you that let you know you really screwed up. I also remember that at one point, I had a crush on his little sister, Joanne. Boy, did John really set me straight on that! The word over-protective jumps to mind. Absolutely loved his sister Mary. We hugged everytime I went over his home. I miss her. I remember all of John's other brothers & sisters with such fondness. Although Vinny, Lucy & Chrissie were really young back then. They probably don't remember much of me at all, but God were they cute. When I turned 19, and decided to get married, I remember planning on asking John to be my Best Man. That's what I wanted. My brother Raymond had other ideas, and I knew John would understand. He did, but he was hurt. I look back now, and wish it had been different. John was, and always will be my best friend. Simple as that. I look forward to seeing him again in the next stage of our lives.

just got word today of john's passing. my deepest sympathies and prays go out for him and his family. i was so saddened to get the news. we went to grammer school together. remember his big family,even for us catholics back in the day. living in the projects on jersey street.great family. remember his mom, a sweet heart. met john after many years last year at the s.i. yankees game. shared some fond memories. so sad to see him go.

I don't know how many times I've hear John say those words, "You're the best, Marty ". Saint Peter's High School and life on the Forest Avenue strip on Staten Island seem so long ago, yet bits and pieces of those days are flooding over me right now.
