Obituary of Loretta B. Vaughan

Loretta B. Vaughan, 89, of Manalapan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 30, 2024. Loretta was born in the Bronx, New York and then moved to Manalapan, New Jersey 58 years ago, where she raised her family. She loved doing needle point, playing gambling games, as well as, going to the casinos and gambling in-person, she enjoyed word-searches, and could often be found saying the rosary (speed-beading), daily. Loretta and her husband Arkie were long-time members of the Yorktown Social Club, where Loretta was an accomplished dart player. She was also a member of the local Rosary Society for years.

 

Loretta graduated the Thorpe Secretarial school in the Bronx and worked for the New York phone company until she had her first child, and then was a homemaker. When Loretta’s youngest was eight she rejoined the workforce and worked at CETA before becoming a Manalapan Township police dispatcher, and then ended her working career as an administrative assistant at a telecommunications company. After retiring she then took care of some of her grandchildren with after school care and transporting them to various activities for years.

 

Loretta was predeceased by her parents John and Loretta; loving spouse Edward (Arkie); son Edward (Eddie) J. Vaughan; daughter and son-in-law Christine (Nicholas) Neri; sister and brother-in-law Catherine and Thomas Knight and brother John McCarthy.  She is survived by her daughters Patricia Dantone (Charlie), and Rosemarie Sauer(Bob); daughter-in-law Karen; son John Vaughan (Thomas Phoenix); grandchildren Nicholas and Kathryn Neri, Kelly, Robert and Laura Sauer, EJ Vaughan, Teresa and Tracey Dantone and great-grandchildren Daniel Gaboff, Emma Neri, Nicoletta Neri, Lincoln, Jonah and Asher Sanders, Ella, Nolan, Marley and Olivia Sauer. Along with many beloved nieces and nephews spread throughout the United States.

 

Friends and family are invited to visit on Thursday, April 4th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00PM to 9:00PM, at Freeman Manalapan Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North.  A funeral liturgy will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Englishtown, NJ on Friday at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Old Tennent Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorial donations to The Alzheimer’s Association https://www.alz.org/.
