Obituary of Martin Peter Browne

Martin “Matty” Browne, 89 of Manalapan, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, March 17th, 2024 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Born Tuesday, June 26, 1934, in the small village of The Neale, Ballinrobe, County Mayo, Ireland, Martin was the son of the late Richard and Mary Browne.

Raised in Ballinrobe alongside his ten brothers and sisters, Martin would marry the love of his life, Bridget “Bridie” Horan. Together, they started their life in London, England where they were married on February 15, 1958. The couple would then start their family in London before immigrating to the United States in 1960. The family would live in Brooklyn, Queens, NY and Jersey City, NJ, before settling in Manalapan in 1984. Martin spent 31 years working for the New York Times from 1971 until his retirement in 2002.

An Irish gentleman, Martin entered the gates of Heaven on St. Patrick’s Day. Martin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and never missed an opportunity to be at a sporting event, or at the race track.

Martin was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years Bridie, his son Martin, grandson Christopher, and siblings Bridie, Thomas, Theresa, and Michael. Martin is survived by his loving children, Joseph and wife Leslie, Kathleen and husband Stephen, Mary and husband Joseph, and his grandchildren Joey, Stephen and wife Natalie, Victoria and husband Eric, Lauren, Anthony, and Tarrah and by his great grandson Liam. He is also survived by his siblings Peter, Ellen, Kathleen, Agnes, Elizabeth and Richard.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Freeman Manalapan Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan, NJ  07728.   A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 11:00am at St. Gabriel’s Historic Church in Marlboro, NJ.  Entombment will follow at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery and Mausoleum in Marlboro, NJ.  To find directions or leave a message of condolence, please visit our website at www.freemanfuneralhomes.com.
