Obituary of Phyllis Abate

Please share a memory of Phyllis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Phyllis Abate, 95, formerly of Marlboro, NJ, and most recently of Lake Mary, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family. Phyllis was born in Strabane, Ireland, before moving to the U.S. at a young age, where she built a beautiful life rooted in love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Phyllis was the heart of her family—a mother whose love knew no bounds, a grandmother who showered her grandchildren with warmth, wisdom, and snacks, a great-grandmother whose gentle spirit left an everlasting imprint, and an aunt whose kindness extended to all who knew her. She dedicated her life to her loved ones, always offering words of encouragement, a listening ear, and unconditional love. Her home was a haven of warmth, laughter, homemade meals, and baked goods that brought everyone together.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter Abate, her parents John and Katherine McColgan, her brothers Edward, Anthony, and Jackie, and her son-in-law Michael Driscoll. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her daughters, Kathleen Tornberg (Ron) of Monroe, NJ, and Linda Driscoll of Lake Mary, FL; her sister Ursula Sullivan of Middletown, NJ; her cherished grandchildren Michael (Sarah) Driscoll, Ian (Monica) Tornberg, Jeffrey Driscoll, Kimberly (Ryan) Camlin, and Melissa Driscoll; and her adored great-grandchildren Mason, Skara, Liam, Nathaniel, and Mackenzie. Phyllis was also a beloved aunt to Maryann Larkin, Carol Stillwell, and many other nieces and nephews, all of whom were blessed to have known her love, guidance, and kindness.

Phyllis’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She was a beacon of love, strength, and grace, and her memory will be cherished forever.
